Perfectly Prepared Sailing: The Ultimate Packing List for Your Trip
Well planned, relaxed sailing
The anticipation is rising! To ensure nothing is forgotten during planning, our experienced sailors have compiled their extensive knowledge – including a practical packing list for download that prepares you optimally for your trip.
What should you take on a sailing vacation?
One of the most common mistakes in trip preparation: packing too much and impractically. Onboard, it's not about quantity but compactness and functionality – as storage space is limited.
Who brings what? Coordinate with your crew!
It's wise to coordinate with the entire crew in advance. What can everyone use together, who can bring what? This also saves luggage and hassle!
Pack in small bags rather than loose - so nothing gets lost and everything can be easily stowed.
Packing for the Sailing Vacation: Our Tips
Luggage: please no suitcase!
Suitcases with hard shells or wheels are impractical and hard to stow on yachts. Instead, use foldable travel bags, sports bags, or duffel bags! These can be easily stored in cabinets or under bunks after unpacking – keeping the boat tidy and safe.
- Clothing: Light, functional, and weatherproof - naturally adapted to the season and weather conditions!
- T-shirts and tops – but also long-sleeved shirts (as sun protection)
- Fleece jacket, sweater, or hoodie
- Shorts, long pants – convertible hiking pants have also proven useful!
- Wind and rain jacket (waterproof and windproof)
- Swimwear, beachwear
- Non-slip deck shoes (with light, non-marking soles!), sturdier footwear for shore excursions
- Sandals or water shoes for the sanitary facilities in the marinas
- Headgear (e.g., cap or sun hat), headband for sensitive ears
- Sunglasses with a strap

Onboard Pharmacy and Personal Hygiene Items
- Personal medications and remedies for seasickness (e.g., tablets, chewing gums, or acupressure bands) painkillers, medications for diarrhea and fever
- Travel toiletry bag (environmentally friendly care products!) sunscreen with high SPF, after-sun lotion, and insect repellent
- Toilet paper (yacht-friendly, quick-dissolving), wet wipes, and disinfectant wipes
Useful and Technology
- Drybag (for documents and electronics)
- Mobile phone with charger (including power bank), adapter for sockets (depending on the destination country)
- Flashlight & spare batteries
- Microfiber towels (dry quickly and require little space)
- Passport or ID card
- Charter documents (boarding pass, charter contract, etc. - also digital), sailing license, copies of all important documents (if necessary, store in the cloud)
Entertainment on Land and Onboard
- Card & board games, like UNO or Skip-Bo - anything that takes up little space is allowed
- Reading material, preferably an e-book reader, which saves space
- Activities for children - for land & deck
e.g., a children's binoculars, magnetic fishing game, diving mask & snorkel.
Don't forget the sand toys to win the "sandcastle building competition".
